Savoir interpréter un rapport de cotes (RC) vous permet de comprendre rapidement si une intervention de santé publique fonctionne et l’ampleur de son effet. Par exemple, dans quelle mesure le vaccin antigrippal empêche-t-il les gens de contracter la grippe?

À l’aide de données hypothétiques, Comment calculer un rapport de cotes montre en quoi un RC permet de déterminer, en moyenne, combien de personnes vaccinées ont contracté la grippe, comparativement aux personnes non vaccinées.

La vidéo montre comment calculer et interpréter un RC et décider s’il indique un résultat positif ou négatif. Un RC de 1 signifierait que le vaccin antigrippal n’a rien changé. Alors, si le résultat devait représenter quelque chose que nous voulons augmenter, comme la vaccination antigrippale, un RC supérieur à 1 serait un résultat positif. Par contre, si l’intervention devait réduire quelque chose, comme le fait de contracter la grippe, il faudrait que le RC soit inférieur à 1 pour que le résultat soit positif.
